I posted pics of my engine about a month or so ago and everyone liked the finished product. I just put the final finishes on the lower half of the engine. After breaking in the engine, I had to take the front tin and fan housing back out to fix an oil leak from the oil pump. All finished now so here’s the pics of everything done with 0 leaks now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
Once I get the carbs tuned in, I’ll post a video of the engine running so you all can hear the exhaust. It’s very subtle and quiet at idle, can’t want to hear it ringing out on the pipe!

Very nice ,some great detail there for sure ,one detail thats my question ? ,why do you have the breather box so low ,it needs to be above the oil filler housing to really work, and you ideally need to draw the fumes off so you need to plumb in a right angle fitting to one of the carb tops to achieve a vacuum ,can't tell from the pic but don't see were the top hose is going ? ,cheers .

Not for my 914 but my ‘74 911 Targa. Thought it was pretty enough to post! Built by Al Kosmal in Washington state.

@porschetub
The middle top hose comes from a T-connector that branches to both heads. If this is not correct, I can change it before I put it on the road.
@Shivers
Sounds very quiet and reserved at idle. Haven’t got it out on the road yet, so can’t wait to hear it open up on the pipe. I will post a video at some point once I get the carbs all tuned in.
@TonyVan
That’s a sweet motor! I have a 79 911sc 3.0 that I will be hopefully finishing up in the next year or so. Bought it back in 1997 and have gone through an every nut and bolt restoration. It’s a Max Morritz car.

You want the breather box highest.

So the accusation of fumes runs back into the motor

Any dips or low spots in the hose becomes blocked with oil and breathing stops. Next symptom is leaking valve covers from excessive crank case pressure

Where did you get the carbon top covers for the air cleaners, very nice look !

Do you have a secondary support at the muffler outlet to support the exhaust system weight? if not i think your present support will not be adequate and will fatigue in time.
A secondary support would have to allow fore & aft movement due to thermal expansion, so a rubber piece would be in order.

I like the black engine tins, i went with red (my favorite color)

@brant
Makes sense…
I don’t have any low spots in any of the hoses. Whatever oil residue that remains in either of the hoses, would drain either back into the heads or into drain bottle below the breather. That is why I looped them high on the firewall. Still open to changing it if it will promote health for my engine.
@barefoot
I make all my fiberglass pieces and carbon fiber bits. I built custom motorcycles for years before cars. Used to make custom fairings and lowers for different bikes.
And the exhaust has 2 mounting points, with both places having rubber isolators. One of them is on the first bend out of the exhaust by the 02 sensor, and the other is above the can that you can’t see. It’s Very Solid. Didn’t want vibrations to crack the header down the road.
The red looks great! I thought about doing mine in the Olympic blue, but I thought the black would hide small chips and dings down the road better. And now that I had to pull half of it back apart to fix the leak at the oil pump, I’m glad I did.

That looks incredible, so clean! Just curious, is that a custom header? Where did you find it?

The Header is a MSDS. Made right here in the US. Great customer service and build quality exceptional. The stainless exhaust, I built to have the center exiting dual tips.

I like your carbon fiber work, nicely done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

For a high mounted breather, here's what i did. I don't seem to get any oil residue in the tube to the air cleaner, so oil vapors seem to get condensed out in the breather canister.
have about 3k miles on it now
The 2 head vents interconnect (the red hose)

Ordered an elbow for one of my carb tops. Will be changing the venting system as instructed. So the breather tubes that come from the heads can just stay linked together, and then just pull vacuum with the carb from the crankcase by the oil fill…correct?
Or should I tie the crankcase and the heads together on vacuum from the carb top?
Thanks for your help guys!

Connecting the head vents together is what i got from a Jake Raby post somewhere.
It's worked fine for me so far
