1970 914-6 all stock

All,

I am down to the last thing for this engine re-fresh: CARBS

They seem to be in very good condition and since they are missing the Porsche factory mark I am guessing that they were 'cored' on a rebuild sometime prior to my ownership

OR

Are 914-6 carbs NOT market like 911 carbs are???????

Anyway, I have not gone too deep since they are in great shape - the gaskets seem good, the floats are the brass kind but in perfect shape, the bowls are very clean,,,,,,

Can I get some direction on:

1. what to look for in a recently rebuilt carb
2. where is a good reference for setup prior to installation

Any other opinions would be well received,

Thank you Teeners

What Porsche marking are you referring to ?

they sound like the ones made after weber. not italian....PMO sold em a bunch..

Italian Weber for a -6 is stamped 40 IDTP 3c, its on this nos carb but bad lighting ..
smog carb with a stepped idle mix screw. IDAS have full taper

Without part numbers it's real hard to tell what you have,as your car is relatively low mileage you should have original spec carbs still on there .
Have look @ the carbs you have and look for tell tail signs of fastener and the brass gallery plug wear which is a good indicator they have been apart .
Problem is folks pull them apart with crappy old tools .
See how you go ,cheers.

Cary
When I worked on the car 25 years ago (!) it had OEM 914 6 Webers.
When I bought the car 5 (?) ago it had those new replacement Webers.
I think the previous owner or his wife had the carbs replaced.

Hey Rory, they seemed to run way too rich but when I took one apart all is clean and new, too bad the originals were cored…..

Will recalibrate and see how it goes, thank you Rory

1. general cleanliness, correct seals and washers, and of course if it runs right.
2. The defacto source for 3c knowledge when it comes to Porsche is on Performance Oriented (web site)

Familiarize your self with the best lean setup. You need to set up linkage correctly and go through all the other procedures like setting the float bowls and using the syncrometer to balance vacuum.

The car's timing, idle and carb setup are all related, if one is off, nothing runs right.

As pictured above, the more rough version of the weber 3c body casting was made in the USA in the 90s by Carter which Weber purchased to try to enter the USA auto market. Recently there are Spanish version of Weber 3c as well. The early 911 Weber carbs are all made in Italy and it's stamped on the side.

Also "reedmoral by Lantech" is apparently a chinese knockoff of the weber 40 ida 3c"

Here are the pictures I promised, first, here is the model stamps of the carb

Attached Image

there is some question as to the originality of the carbs - according to Carl at Klassic Automotive Training School, there is a stamp on every carb that goes through the Porsche Factory, it should be right here:

Attached Image

He talks about this and much more in one of his videos, all of which are very informative,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3qwIbRdcvE&t=60s

Inside is very clean, stained in a few places, but clean.

Floats are in perfect shape, did not use compressed air to clean them.....grin

When I opened the gasket seemed new and the interfaces were very clean.

Question is where to start on a carb that seems to be in very good shape but needs to have all of the adjustments made.....????
