So I was curious about what the most common 914/6 color was.
This is based on 686 car that I have COAs on...nothing more scientific than that. 15.91% Silver Metallic 15.77% Tangerine 13.72% Signal Orange 13.58% Canary Yellow 13.58% Light Ivory 9.20% Irish Green 4.82% Adriatic Blue 2.92% Metallic Green 1.90% Metallic Blue 1.46% Bahia Red 1.46% Metallic Red 1.17% Gemini Blue 0.88% Willow Green 0.88% Saturn Yellow 0.73% Metallic Gold 0.73% Black 0.58% Paint to order (Porsche) 0.44% Sun Yellow 0.44% Paint to order (Customer) |

If i have some time over the weekend, i can run a script to see what the numbers are in our VIN database. Obviously not as reliable as actual copies of COAs but still maybe interesting to see how they compare ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

Not very lilac. Think of the skin of a big fat ripe eggplant. Last year a dealer in Cleveland had an aubergine '75 914 with a tan interior. |

Window sticker designated it as a $206 optional custom color. |

We had our choice of Tangerine, Signal Orange or Irish Green brand new but year-old -6s when we traded in our '70 Silver 1.7 at Johnson-Bozzanni Porsche in Phoenix on 9/14/71. Still have the green one out in the garage. The purchase date was a total accident and we didn't realize the significance until years later.

EDIT i would have said it was this. proper purple. 60s style. https://www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/RoyalPurple(Lilac) but its a long time ago. the guy who owned the car and brought it in hated it. he painted the car yellow. i've never forgotten the purple - it was so memorable. |

@wonkipop that's just plum crazy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/marty914.jpg) i'd love to have a 6. but it ain't ever going to happen. but if i did..............it would be plum crazy. i did tell the guy who owned it he should repaint it in the purple. which we assumed rightly or wrongly was original. i can't remember what he said to me exactly anymore, but it wasn't a compliment. the car is still around. owned by someone else these days. i am pretty sure it was out at sandown a few weeks back at a german day. and its still not purple. |

We love the current color, but it is going back to the original color when we have the body work done. Now we know what it will look like when it gets painted. Thanks! Clay |

Now we know what it will look like when it gets painted. Thanks! Clay When I got that car, it had four different layers of paint on it already... each a different shade of metallic blue... so I stripped it and did what made me happy. Metallic Cobalt Blue should have been a factory 914 color. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) The only thing that pisses us off about the color of the car is that we love it, but we are going to take it off so it can be repainted back to the stock color.
