I first used these while working at a Porsche dealership in the early 70's. I believe we purchased them from a VW dealer.
This little device slows down the heat getting to the head temp sensor and after initial warm up, it has no effect on running. $30. with 2 copper seal rings. Post included
Does not include the head temp sensor.

It seems (?) that this might make the CHT sensor easier/faster to replace (if the extension stays in place)?
What’s the likelihood that removing the CHT unscrews the extension, too?
Interesting potential.

Hopefully you won't need to remove the CHT often.
It's probably about 50/50 that it would stay in the head unless you use Locktite. A small dab of anti seize on the CHT itself would also help.
Keep in mind you are installing a steel threaded part into the much softer aluminum cylinder head. The threads can strip out easily. Brad

Ordered one from 914 LTD awhile back after reading COUNTLESS posts on rough idle on a 73 and taming it. Made a noticeable improvement instantly for the warming up cycle.

Greetings All,
No update on my end but I'm sure there is something legit that's keeping Brad from responding to this thread. I hope all is well.
Meantime, I just ordered one of these (same price) from the 914 Ltd. store on Ebay. Got a confirmation of shipping the next day.

@914ltd I bought one of these from you a while back, but have not installed yet. I'm looking for guidance on installing the extension for someone who's never installed a CHT nor an extension.
1. Obviously, I don't want to strip the cylinder head. Is there a torque LB you recommend for the extension into the head ... hand tighten only?
2. Same question for the CHT on the extension - what torque should I use?
3. Lastly, should I install the CHT on the extension first, then install the extension into the CH?
Thanks in advance.

You would want firm contact with the copper (or aluminum) washers for good heat conduction. There is no published torque but I would think 10 LB would be sufficient. Read the above post for more information. Brad

Do you think this would be viable on our 1.8s vs the D-Jet cars? I am probably going to replace my CHT sensor with one that I got from Jeff Bowlsby as the insulation on mine is coming off. I will be purchasing the correct socket to remove a wired sensor.

Enriching the mixture when engine is cold would be the same for the Ljet and Djet. It might be helpful to prevent damaging lean backfire common to the 1.8. Brad

Click to view attachmentRon, the head temp sensor is not included as noted. Only the extension is offered.
Along with others, 914Rubber.com has the temp sensors. OEM0280130012
They have them listed at $22.50. The OEM would indicate they were Original Equipment Manufacture. Brad

My mistake , I probably wouldn't need the extension here in California since it does not get that cold here .
I believe the sensor I showed a photo of was purchased at 914 Rubber and says OEM-012 type so that's good to know as there is a bit of discussion on the forum about two different ones , one is recommended the other is not .
Thanks
