I see this car, and have dreams of a silver 914-6 GT…

Not my favorite color but......they all look great when done right.
Looks pretty solid. I see it as an opportunity.

That's interesting, the COA indicates it is a '71 yet the VIN is a '70 VIN. Also, the engine number, "640" would indicate a '70 as well. At least that is what I believe. My '71 VIN is "9141430372" and my engine number was a "641" number. wacko.gif

Regardless, that looks like a pretty solid car to start with. Sourcing some of the unique parts that may have walked off may be a challenge, but doable.

Back then you could sell the new car and bring it forward a year if need be. It was perfectly legal then.

This car IS a 70 model, another COA screwup by Porsche. Has also had the front panel the right headlight box and the left door replaced at one time with later model parts, hence the relocation of the vin plate in the front trunk. The AC cutouts remind me of the 916. Cutouts are the same. The dealer HAD to cut the back firewall for the compressor to clear when installing on a six cylinder engine

Nice Paraphrase all the points made in the comments!

The Karman body number in the rear trunk is 132399 which is a 1972 number.

13= 914-6 Karman chassis sent to Porsche factory for assembly
2 = 1972
399 = production sequence

A '72 914/6 would be quite rare, right?

Sure about that ?
7 / 70 build date 043 2567 had Karmann trunk # 132 330

I think the issue here is that some states registered new cars by the year they were
first registered.
914 6s WERE.... slow movers........ 043 2259 must have been a slow mover and Porsche Audi North America may have been provided with date of sale info which ended up on the COA

Paraphrasing his own Comments? They should be welcomed here no?

Nope. There was no year digit in the 1970 Karmann body #. (came in 1971)
1=production body (0=replacement)
3= 914/6 body type (0, 1 & 2 are for 911 variants)
2399 is the serial which closely matches the last digits of the VIN

For some reason I miss read that these where George's own words iin the BAT listing. I must have had a bee in my bonnet.

George and I go way back, and I have had many interaction with him, always polite, and willing to share his knowledge.

All this being said, thank you @Fritz356 for making me go back and read the BAT comments again and see they where George's own words. beerchug.gif
