Total shot in the dark here but wondering if anyone happens to know the whereabouts of an original six that my father turned into a track car in the 80s. It was originally white, then painted all black and flared, and when it left his ownership around 2005 or so it was yellow and black. It was set up for HSR and had an imsa air dam. 2.7 powerplant if i remember right. Was definitely a track only car with cage and fire suppression, etc. Sold out of the Charlotte NC area. My dad passed a couple years ago but he really loved driving that car and I am curious if it is still around.

I am going to see if I can track it down through paperwork but I thought I would ask here too.

With the VIN you might be able to track the car in the data base here.

If it is a 914/6 (as opposed to a -6 conversion) I might have information.

So first set back. Mom can't find the car folder. Probably went to the guy he sold it to. When he sold it he also sold an enclosed trailer if that helps.

Larry has his list and I have mine but we do share data along with the German 914/6 Club. In 1992 I started tracking sixes in my area (I was looking to purchase one and didn't want to look at cars twice). I started a database in 1994 which I entered advertisements from my newly acquired complete Porsche Panorama collection as well as Excellence Magazine and Hemmings. I was tracking the 914 race cars, M491s and M471s so the database seemed a perfect container. I started collecting pictures in about 1998, in about 2000 I place a summary of each car on the internet. Today I have 1768 unique VINs

So the one on the middle was his inspiration for the paint I believe when he added the yellow. Minus the integrated imsa air dam. His was not molded to the fenders. Very similar though!

Pleased to report i found my fathers car and was reunited as well. Owned by a great guy who has really taken care of it. Spent time reminiscing about racing the car (car has been vintage raced since 1988) with my dad and a lot of his exploits as well. Such an amazing day. Here are some pics of how it looks today.

Truly amazing that you did but can you tell us the story? If you don't mind, how did you come to find it? Where did you find it? I see it is still wearing Black Forest decal and that is a San Diego based shop, so wondering if it is here local in san Diego? Did you get to drive it? Hope so.

I sold a white 914 6 to a father and son in the Charlott area 30-35 (!) years ago.
I flat towed it there as part of the deal.
It wasn't a race car at that time but it had been autocrossed.
It was solid. 914 043 1154

It is an interesting story for sure! So i had just moved back to Charlotte from DC after a year of work. While in DC i purchaed a really nice 75 914. First night back in Charlotte with the car and it threw the fan belt which struck the coil and knocked off the wires. In the dark i put the wires back incorrectly and produced some copious smoke. Had the car flatbedded home. After replacing coil, points, spark.plug wires, etc decided to have a shop look at the dizzy. Two local choices i found were a vw shop and black forest racing in Denver. BFR was closer so went there.

Walked in the shop and there was everything from 356s to a 17k mile 88 Turbo and a strong showing of 914s. Introduced myself and the owner John looked a little surprised and asked if my dad had the same name. I said he did and that did he happen to know my father and his car? He said not only did he know the car he had driven it and actually still works on the car! He then dials up the owner and says you wont believe who just walked in the shop. New owner is super nice guy and its just amazing how truly small is this world.

Car is certainly in great shape. Motor is super stong and i did indeed get to drive it. I was very careful of course as there are no tags and just in the neighborhood.

Oh and John fixed my distributor for the 75 super quickly and priced very fairly.

Update: I MAY be driving this car this year at VIR vintage races. SO excited and my dad would be thrilled.

And of the 31 years i have been track driving VIR is by far my favorite track of all. Just such a great track in pace, distance, and rhythm.

John is a fantastic guy at BFR. I met him only by chance as I don't get to his region too often. He brought a survivor 914 to the Ault Park Concours in Cincinnati when Porsche was the Featured Marque and I happened to be the circle host for his car. I basically ended up sitting to and talking with John and his wife all day. Come to think of it, I need to make a trip just to see him.

In 2019 my daughter purchased for me my 1976 I sold 28 years ago. She located it through the Porsche 914 Owners Association.
